Damage comes from two things: an extension too heavy for the lash carrying it, or several natural lashes glued together, which blocks their normal shedding cycle. That is why every appointment begins with an assessment of your natural lashes before choosing a set.

Three to four weeks on average. Your natural lashes renew continuously: each one sheds at the end of its cycle, taking its extension with it. Density therefore fades gradually rather than all at once. A refill every 2 to 3 weeks for a volume set, or every 3 weeks for a classic set, keeps the day-one result.

Worth knowing: lash extension is not a regulated profession in Quebec — no professional body oversees it, and no one is legally required to be trained before placing an extension a millimetre from your eye. The Classic Set ($70). It is the lightest and most natural of the four, and it lets you judge comfort, retention and the overall look before moving to more density. Most clients move up to Hybrid or Volume by their second or third appointment.

No. You stay lying down with your eyes closed for the whole session. Nothing touches the skin: extensions are placed about a millimetre from the eyelid, on the lash itself. Most clients fall asleep. A brief stinging sensation can occur if you open your eyes too early because of adhesive fumes — which is why keeping them closed until the end matters.

Three rules cover it. Keep your lashes dry for the first 24 hours while the adhesive fully cures. Avoid all oil-based products around the eyes: oil dissolves the adhesive. And brush your lashes every morning with the spoolie provided, so they do not tangle. Also try not to sleep with your face pressed into the pillow — that is the most common cause of losing lashes on one side early.

It is not necessary, and it is not recommended. Mascara weighs the extensions down, and removing it requires rubbing that loosens them. That is precisely the point of a volume or wispy set: it replaces mascara and eyeliner day to day. Eyeshadow and gel eyeliner remain perfectly compatible.

In the studio, with a professional remover that dissolves the adhesive without touching the natural lash. Never pull them off yourself: you would take the natural lash with the extension. If you simply want to stop, you can also let the extensions fall out naturally over 4 to 6 weeks, following the natural cycle.

The set itself does not. Improper removal does: pulling an acrylic set off takes the surface layers of the natural nail with it and leaves a thin, fragile surface for months. In-salon removal ($20) dissolves the product without touching the nail. It is the only method to use.

Size S ($50) stays close to natural length and works in any setting, professional included. Size M ($60) is the most common choice. Sizes L ($75) and XL ($90) are statement lengths: striking to look at, but they take some adjusting to for typing or driving.
